Swine Flu. 7 dead. 6.5 billion not dead.

Back in the old days whenever your country was going through a bad time financially you had to go start a war somewhere to take peoples minds off of it.  Lots of people died, millions more suffered, things were never the same afterwards but generally the financial situation seemed to sort itself out.

But these days we have exotic sounding diseases that do the job so much better.  Hardly anyone dies and the only suffering is having to sit through endless “investigative journalism” reports and “urgent updates” on telly.  It takes everybody’s minds off the recession without having to commit troops or make up cool war slogans… so all in all a good result.

WE ARE IN A FUCKING WAR YOU DICK. Im sure there are SEVERAL people out there who wish they could focus on the economy rather than their loved ones fighting overseas.

other than that, you’re graphs were funny.

@ Averysmartperson – America can’t POSSIBLY be in a war. (Dick) After all, your president just won the Nobel PEACE prize.

  2. cheesy74 Says:

@Averysmartperson: Check the post again for what kind of slang he uses. I’m pretty sure this guy’s british. They’re not in a war, so his point stands.

  3. steviegi Says:

Hey Cheesy, where`s your slang hail from must be somewhere pretty remote not to see BBC newsflashes of bodies being flown home to RAF Lynham from our non-war…Afghanistan to you!.

Yeah, we’re a New Zealand outfit (technically part of the Commonwealth but the Queen doesn’t bother to visit much) and currently at war with Australia in the ICC champions Cricket.

As a nation we played with the American-led World Allstars team in the war against Vietnam, but weren’t selected to compete in Iraq as our military have shown a lack of form recently.

Hopefully this year we will get a helicopter and maybe a tank.

  5. steviegi Says:

Sorry murderburger we are too busy paying for europe to look out for the commonwealth…government policy not mine

    Thank You!
I just finished writing a piece on fear of the H1N1 virus here in my small town-it’s pitiful and ignorant…
    Love the graph

  9. Rady Says:

this is freakin hysterical, MB… and oh so true!

nah… this swine flu is a flu swindle.

  10. trogwolf Says:

I like your graph, seems pretty accurate. I went to Baja California (Mexico – sort of) in February 2008. The first 4 days I had the flu, but I got over it, since I am a pretty healthy guy. If you want to ensure your own and your children’s vulnerability to the influenza virus, in its ever mutating form, be sure to continue using germicidal cleansers and avoid all contact with germs. And don’t forget to begin bottle feeding as early as possible. Heaven forbid you should expose yourself or your children to the natural environment or breast feed long enough to pass on any natural immunities.

I really like this answer, “murderburger Says:

Just as well the old lady stays out of your affairs and doesn’t call you up for military service anymore. Seems like anytime you boys or your pals on the big island got called up, the stars and bars in charge would put you out front as a shield between the cannons and the home boys.

I can’t sympathize with your point of view since the war we are in was a violation of the constitution the president and congress swore to protect and defend and a 180 degree departure from everything America stood for for 225 years. Yeah, let’s start off the 21st century by reenacting the 12th century. It takes a radical form of dyslexia to want to start a 100 years holy war, but hey, since the commander in chief isn’t around for more than the first 8 years, who cares, right?

  12. pecila Says:

@averysmartperson: Yes you are at war, you dick. Stop killing people you dick. Find another way to level your testosterone.

This isn’t about respect, or else it is all about respect for the truth. We sympathize with your loss. If you mistrust the diagnosis, perhaps you should get a second opinion. That would probably be more reliable than diagnosing her yourself, unles you are a pediatric immunologist, by training and experience.

IMHO, the kind of fear tactics surrounding the blitz campaign to get people immunized is only good for one thing – raise the price of immunizations to pad the bank accounts of the labratories that develop the vaccine.
